Personal details
About me
I'm an engineering leader who builds teams, and the systems around them. I multiply other people's impact rather than maximise my own.
I'm a Canadian living just outside Sheffield UK with my partner, our son, and two cats. My pronouns are she/her/they. I have an MA in vocal music, and love model making, embroidery, the outdoors, food, and red pandas.
People leadership
Leader and mentor
I lead through trust rather than authority, and I develop managers as much as engineers. I advocate for people, especially when they're not in the room, and help them find their own way of leading rather than expecting them to work like me.
Culture and community
I believe change lasts when the people affected help shape it, and I work to make teams inclusive, from how we run meetings to how we give feedback. Outside of work, I've organised Front End North, Front End Sheffield, and Sheffield JS.
Organisational health
Systems, not blame
Most organisational problems are systems problems, and I'm more interested in improving the system than assigning blame. I build ways of working that teams own, communities of practice where managers coach each other, and documentation that people trust and contribute to.
Delivery
I want product teams to be problem solvers, not order-takers. That means well-understood priorities, candid conversations about trade-offs, and protected time for improvement work that never makes it onto a roadmap.
